Cancer
Diagnostic
Many methods are utilized to help with the diagnosis of cancer. Many
times growths on the skin or other areas of the body are not a tumor or
are a benign mass. However, there are few things scarier than when the
growth turns out to be a malignant cancer.
Surgical Oncology
Removing tumors with surgery is often a way to cure certain types of
cancer. Other times surgery is used to obtain a biopsy. While in some
instances surgery is used in combination with chemotherapy and/or
radiation. A diagnosis is needed to tell what combination is needed to
give your pet the best outcome possible.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy can be one of the scariest words in medicine. All of us
have known a friend or family member who has had to take chemotherapy.
The good news is that dogs and cats tolerate chemotherapy much better
than people do. Not all cancer types need chemotherapy. However, many
cancers respond to chemotherapy and in certain types of cancer it is the
only option for therapy.
